5 PERKS about Tea Tree Products that you should be aware of - Manuka Honey Direct

Tea Tree oil is distilled from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, commonly known as tea trees, which are mainly found in Australia. It has been proven to contain antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory properties, working perfectly towards acne, footcare and head lice. The germ-fighting properties contained inside tea tree oil makes it a naturally valuable product to deal with bacterial and fungal skin conditions, in a way of preventing further infections and boosting the healing.

    • Antibacterial properties

For over 100 years being used as a healing treatment, tea tree oil has been pointed out it has successfully damaged the cell walls of bacteria. (Cox et al) Tea Tree Oil has been proven to be very effective for disinfection, as it may help kill a number of germs responsible for colds, the flu, and other illness without any consumptions of any antibiotics.  One of our members of staff swears by their concoction of water and tea tree oil as a window cleaner on her “spring clean” to guard against mould – and it really works!

    • Keep Pesky Insects away

Throughout research done in the past, Tea tree oil has been proven effective to repel or eliminate insects. 24 hours after being treated with tea tree oil, cows are observed to be surrounded with 60% fewer flies than usual.

    • Boost Wound Healing

As known with antibacterial, antifungal and anti-oxidant properties, tea tree oil helps reduce inflammation and enhance healing by protecting damaged skin. A few drops of tea tree oil can be added to wound dressing each time a new dressing is applied and although it initially stings, its antibacterial properties help to fight off infection.

    • Terminating Dandruff

Dandruff is a big issue for many people. Adding tea tree oil to shampoo has been found to reduce dandruff. This is thought to be related to its antifungal properties. And because it is slightly more acidic than your skin, it helps clear the dandruff scales.

    • Fight Acne

Gels or ointments containing Tea Tree Oil are shown to reduce a significant number of skin blemishes and acne. It’s also easy to make your own, just by mixing one part tea tree oil with nine parts water, or three drops with one teaspoonful of petroleum jelly.  Apply the mixture to the affected areas with a cotton swab once or twice a day, as needed.

Warning - Never Consume Tea Tree Oil orally

Remember to get your Tea Tree oil from a reputable store!
